What are suede boots called? Types of women's shoes. Women's summer footwear

Shoes are not just “clothes” for the feet, they are one of the most important details of style. The same outfit worn with elegant pumps, shoes with rough “tractor” soles or ballet flats will look different. Moreover, stylists claim that two things “make” a woman – her hair and her shoes. So you need to be careful when choosing shoes.

Let's figure out what types of women's shoes there are, and what to wear with which particular models. Photos of images will help you understand how to create ensembles.

All types of women's shoes can be divided into two large groups. These are models with heels and shoes without heels. Both types of shoes are very popular.

The names of various models are unfamiliar to many fashionistas, since professional terms are rarely used in everyday life. But we'll try to figure it out.

boats

The most popular option for women's shoes can be called classic pumps, as well as their varieties.

The classic model is called Searpin. These are slip-on shoes with a fairly low cut, pointed toe and thin stiletto heel. The classic stiletto heel has a height of 7 cm, but models with higher heels - 10-12 cm - are extremely popular. Of course, these are not shoes for everyday wear, but for a special occasion.

The classic color of pumps is black. But now colored models, as well as printed models, are very popular. Particularly chic are pumps from Christian Louboutin; their distinctive feature is a bright red sole.

There is an opinion that classic pumps are a universal model that suits all types of clothing. This is not entirely true. Pumps are absolutely not suitable for sports style clothing. But with romantic and business dresses, short skinny trousers and jeans, and skirts of various styles, this type of shoe looks great.

Varieties of boats

Classic pumps came into fashion in the middle of the last century, and during their existence, designers came up with many different models based on classic pumps.

These are models such as:

  • (Dorsay) D'orsay. The difference between this model of shoes is the cutouts in the side parts. The models can be worn with the same clothes as classic pumps; this type of shoe is more suitable for summer looks.

  • Stiletto. Stiletto shoes are very similar to pumps. Their difference is a rounded nose and a thin low heel. This version of pumps looks especially good with business-style clothing.
  • Kitten Hill. Pumps with a heel in the shape of a glass; it is quite wide at the top and gradually tapers, turning into a thin stiletto heel. The toe of such shoes can be either pointed or rounded.

  • Peep toe. This is the name given to shoes with an open toe. The cutout on the toe can be small, shaped like a triangle or droplet, or quite wide, completely revealing the toes. Models of shoes with open toes are usually worn in the warm season. The main requirement when using these shoes is a perfect pedicure. Discussions about whether it is possible to wear open-toe shoes with tights or stockings continue. Some stylists allow wearing tights with open-toed shoes, others consider this bad manners. However, there is a compromise solution - stockings and tights with open toes.

  • Slingbacks. Shoes with a cut-out heel; instead of a heel, these shoes use a strap with an elastic band or a buckle clasp. The toe of such shoes can be varied - round or pointed, deaf or with a cutout. Shoes with perforated toes look good. You can wear skinbacks with feminine dresses with flared skirts and a relaxed business style (business casual). But stylists do not recommend wearing this type of shoes with skirts or skinny jeans.

Platforms and wedges

Many people confuse two types of solid soles - wedges and platforms. In fact, they look different. The wedge is a kind of wedge, it gradually thickens in the direction from the toe to the heel. The platform is a solid sole that is even along its entire length. Both options are a more comfortable alternative to heels.

Wedge heel

Wedge heels look more elegant than platforms, so shoes with such soles can be worn with feminine dresses and flared trousers. In addition to the classic wedge, designers have developed other versions of such a sole.

A beveled wedge is different in that it tapers towards the bottom, so shoes with such a sole look less massive. Another way to make a wedge heel more elegant is to create cutouts on the back and sides of the sole.

The upper part of wedge shoes can be varied. These can be pumps, models with straps, and sandals.

Platforms

Shoes with a classic flat platform look rough, so they are used mainly when creating youth looks. The most popular model are creepers (aka creepers, aka flatforms). These are high platform shoes, the upper part of which is similar to lace-up boots.

Creepers are worn with denim sundresses and overalls, with midi skirts and tight leather trousers.

Combined models

Recently, combined models have come into fashion, in which the platform is located only under the front of the shoes, and at the back it can turn into a wedge or heel.

Shoes with platform and square high heels are called Lita. These shoes are worn with narrow knee-length or slightly shorter skirts, with skinny jeans or trousers. But such shoes will look good only on tall girls with slender legs. For plump and short fashionistas, it is better to choose a different shoe model.

You should not wear such shoes with maxi skirts or flared trousers, as these clothing models hide the slenderness of the legs, so the lower part of the figure will look “heavy”.

Platform shoes with thin high heels are informally called Louboutins. This name comes from the name of the French designer Christian Louboutin, who introduced the fashion for this style. The platform in such shoes can be hidden, that is, covered with the material of the top of the shoes. But sometimes the design of the platform and upper of the shoes can be different.

These shoes should be worn with cocktail or short evening dresses. An excellent ensemble of Louboutins is made with cropped or rolled-up jeans or skinny trousers.

Shoes with strap

Shoes with any type of sole (wedge heel, stiletto heel, platform) can have a detail such as a strap. This detail is used not only for decoration, but to support the arch of the foot.

Depending on the shape and location of the strap, the following types of shoes are distinguished:

  • Mary Janes. In this model, the strap is located on the instep. Another distinctive feature of the shoes is the rounded toe.
  • Ankle Strap. This model has a strap that fits the leg just above the ankle
  • T-Strap. An original model, decorated with a strap in the shape of the letter “T”.

All models of shoes with straps look very feminine, so they are best worn with feminine style clothes. But fashionistas should take into account that the difference in straps visually shortens their legs, so the listed models do not suit short fashionistas.

Sandals

Open-toed shoes that leave most of the foot exposed. The upper part of the sandals can be an interlacing of straps or simply have cutouts on the surface.

The sole of the sandals can be any, have a thin or square heel or a wedge.

Flat shoes

Models of shoes without heels are no less varied. These shoes are more comfortable, so they are often chosen as casual and leisure shoes.

Ballet shoes

The most popular type of flat shoes. These are very comfortable shoes that resemble pumps, but have a flat sole or square heel up to 1 cm high.

Ballet flats go perfectly with a wide variety of clothing styles, they can be worn with skirts, dresses, trousers and shorts. But ballet flats do not suit full fashionistas; it is better for them to choose shoes with heels, even if the heel is not high.

Moccasins

Shoes with soft soles, made of suede or leather. Moccasins look good with trousers of any length, shorts, and overalls. You can create an interesting ensemble if you combine moccasins with light, flowing dresses.

Loafers

These are shoes that look like moccasins, that is, they have a decorative seam along the front. The difference between loafers is the presence of a hard sole. Women's loafers come in a wide variety of models; they can be made on a platform, have a small square heel, or be made of matte or patent leather, suede, or textiles. The decor of women's loafers is also quite diverse. In addition to classic tassels and fringe, buckles, jars, and artificial flowers are often used.

Loafers are worn with skirts of various lengths, cropped trousers, and shorts. And also with knitted dresses of a loose silhouette.

Espadrilles

Summer shoes with textile upper and rope sole. You can wear these shoes with denim shorts, summer dresses of a laconic cut, denim skirts and sundresses.

Topsiders

Shoes similar to moccasins and loafers. The difference is the white rubber sole and the lace running along the upper contour of the shoes. This type of shoe looks good with cropped trousers, shorts, and short skirts.

  1. Models without heels, more similar to men's, worn without socks with trousers or jeans. In this case, the trouser legs are rolled up to expose the graceful ankles. This is very suitable for girls with slender legs.
  2. To create a stylish everyday look, we are advised to wear Oxford shoes in brown or beige tones.

Boots in dark tones or a bright shade will look chic with cropped or casually rolled trousers. This type of flat shoe is not worn with long trousers.

BY THE WAY: When wearing with skirts, it is advisable not to burden the image with feminine details such as ruffles or flounces.

Women's boots, ankle boots and ankle boots are not just warm shoes. This is also a bright accent and an opportunity to demonstrate your taste and status.

Women's boots

Practicality. Relevance. Style... Mostly women's boots - whether high, low, Chelsea, etc. - are represented by classics. They borrowed almost everything from the design of men's shoes.

Here are the main trends:

  • Derby: The design of universal boots of a strict style is traditional, the sole is thick, “geisha” type;
  • Oxfordettes: are the most conservative in terms of decor and shape, but they look super great, especially in the context of romantic and informal outfits;
  • Monkey: similar to shoes of the same name without laces or with a metal buckle on the side;
  • Loafers: shoes without ties for every day; soft body; neat decor in the form of tassels or small fringe;

Sports, democratic and grunge boots are very popular. The models fit perfectly into the most daring and comfortable look with dresses, jeans and casual-style trousers.

Original leather sneakers, sneakers, “grinders” and stylized insulated boots are represented in many collections of modern fashion houses.

Ankle boots

This is a versatile and very practical type of shoe. With him you will be incomparable in a business, basic, and eclectic look.

Made from natural and eco-leather, suede and nubuck, textiles, lace, knitted and perforated fabric.

Heeled ankle boots are varied not only in terms of design (they are decorated with textured inserts and fur, rhinestones and colored elements, fringe and voluminous appliqués), but also in their type.

  • In grunge and punk models, this is a thick column heel.
  • In more feminine ones - stiletto or wedge-shaped heels.
  • In avant-garde variations and oxfordettes, the heel is complemented by a platform.
  • The style of models with elegant but stable wedge heels from democratic and luxury brands is strict, youthful and semi-sporty.
  • The design of winter ankle boots insulated with fur, flannel and other materials, high, usually with a thick sole and a stable heel or on a wide platform, is reinforced, and their seams are waterproof.

Women's ankle boots

These are the most versatile and very comfortable shoes for the cold season.

  • The tops make them warmer than boots.
  • Unlike ordinary boots, ankle boots are easier to choose, because when trying them on there are no problems with the width of the boot.
  • This type of women's warm shoes looks great with different clothes. Although they are more preferred by girls who like to wear trousers.
  • Demi-season ones can have heels and even stilettos. Suede models are suitable for dry weather
  • Closer to frost, ankle boots with flat soles or wedges will become more relevant, due to which they are more stable.
  • Tight trousers are tucked into this type of women's shoes, as a result, the foot is protected from the cold and from snow.
  • Winter ankle boots can be not only insulated, but also decorated with fur.
  • Textile boots with polyurethane soles, produced by some manufacturers, are an excellent option for outdoor activities.

Classic women's boots

The good old classics are what is relevant in the cold, no matter what the trendsetters offer us. And there are no special secrets here - they fit perfectly into any image, which does not have to be particularly structured, as in the situation with trendy models.

PLEASE NOTE: When buying a pair, you need to focus on the design of the outerwear. If you choose it correctly, you can combine shoes with one way or another: from the image of a business woman to the style of a modest romantic girl.

Classic women's boots are different:

  • A high boot (if above the knee, then these are over the knee boots) that fits the leg.
  • Narrow toe (or pointed, rounded).
  • Calm colors (gray, brown, black).
  • The presence of heels of different shapes.
  • The interior trim, such as demi-season shoes, is trimmed with flannel, while winter shoes are trimmed with fur or wool.
  • Minimum decor.

No matter how versatile classic boots are, which are relevant at any time of the year (except summer), they will look more harmonious with clothes in a classic style.

BY THE WAY: High-heeled models have the ability to make legs slimmer, visually lengthening them.

Loafers (from English loafer means “loafer”) are a model of shoes without fasteners and laces. The shape of loafers resemble moccasins, but they differ in the presence of a stable sole with a small heel. The classic model of loafers has small (usually two) tassels, which, in fact, do not serve any function, but are a rather important element of the classic model.

Loafers were invented according to all existing legends by the Norwegian shoemaker Nils Gregorijusson Tveranger in the 20th century. He spent his youth in America, learning the art of shoe making. Nils returned to Norway when he was 20 years old, at the same time he created his own model of shoes, which he called “Aurland moccasins” (a little later - “Aurland shoes”) in honor of the Norwegian city of Aurlans, where he spent his childhood. The local population liked the shoes and quickly became popular. Exports went to Europe, where American tourists noticed the convenient model. So the fame of “Norwegian moccasins” spread throughout the world. Based on this model, already in America, the Spalding family of shoemakers began to create the same shoes, renaming them “loafers.”

Simple shoes reached their peak of popularity in the 1980s, when Guccio Gucci himself declared his love for loafers (he added the famous metal buckle to them). After that, loafers became a real “elite” attribute - everyone on Wall Street wore them almost as part of a uniform.

Oxfords

Oxfords (originally called “Balmorals” - were named after the royal castle of Balmoral in Scotland) are low-rise shoes with closed lacing and a flat non-rubber sole.

In the 19th century, these shoes were incredibly popular among Oxford University students. It was this “student” popularity that led the Balmorals to change their name. At first, Oxfords were “high shoes” without laces, but students contributed here too by making the shoes shorter and adding laces (to prevent the shoes from falling off the foot). Most often, oxfords are sewn without perforation and are presented in classic brown and black tones.

What is closed lacing? This is a certain type of lacing, where the vamp (the front of the shoe, the leather patch on the toe) is sewn on top of the ankle boots (the actual surface of the shoe) - as opposed to the derby. That is, the two sides (boots), tightened with lace, are sewn under the front of the boot (vamp) and closed over the tongue sewn at the bottom, under the lacing. The side parts, the so-called ankle boots, are stitched to the front of the shoe in the shape of the letter “V”.

Derby

Derby shoes are open-laced shoes in which the ankle boots are sewn over the vamp. Simply put, the sides are sewn over the front of the shoe so that when the laces are untied, the sides move freely. Most often they come with perforation.

Brogues

Brogues are shoes with perforations. They can be either with open lacing or closed. A characteristic feature is the cut-off V-shaped toe.

In the 17th century, armoring (punching holes in the skin) was used by Irish farmers, who often worked in swampy areas. Perforated holes in the brogues made it possible to quickly remove water from the boots and contributed to the rapid ventilation of the foot. Over time, brogues began to be worn by people from different walks of life, including the elite. A little later, in the 20th century, this shoe model gained unprecedented popularity among men, when Prince Edward of Wales began going out only in brogues. By the way, it was at his request that these shoes had a cut-off toe (in the shape of the letter W), along the seam of which there were perforations - an element that made brogues popular.

Chelsea

Chelsea boots are ankle-high leather boots with thin soles and a slightly pointed and slightly rounded toe. A distinctive feature of this type of shoe is rubber inserts on the sides along the entire height of the shoe. History is silent and does not reveal the secret of who created this shoe model, but the hypothesis hints at a direct connection of these boots with one of the London districts - Chelsea. It is known that the shoes were at the peak of popularity in the 1960s and 70s.

If instead of rubber inserts there is a zipper (on the side, usually on both sides), then the boots are called beatle. The name, as difficult as it may be to notice, is consonant with the popular group The Beatles, whose members wore these shoes almost without taking them off. Interesting fact: many believe that love for Chelsea is the only thing that united the Beatles with their bitter rivals The Rolling Stones.

Monkey

Monks are “monastic” boots. This model is characterized by a smooth surface and a leather top overlap with a buckle. Most often, monks are sewn without zippers or lacing. The design is held together, roughly speaking, by buckles that are fastened with an overlap over the ankle boots. Thanks to such a fastener, monks are quite practical.

The word monk is translated as “monk”. According to legends, it was representatives of the clergy who were the first to wear these ultra-comfortable shoes. This was, however, back in the 12th century, and shoes were made from textiles, not leather. Since the monks did not want and did not like to spend a lot of time fastening their shoes, such a special, quick-to-use model was created especially for them. The classic look of monks with one strap is still quite popular today. Brown is considered the most popular color, but monks in black or dark blue shades are no less popular.

Ballet shoes

Ballet flats are our favorite classic shoe with flat soles or small, chunky heels and a closed toe. Ballet shoes got their name for their resemblance to professional shoes in ballet, that is, directly for their resemblance to pointe shoes.

Back in the 16th century, there were shoes of this type, which were worn by both male and female nobles. In the 17th-18th centuries, similar shoes acquired a small heel, but still remained incredibly stable and comfortable for everyday wear. And finally, in the 19th century, shoemaker Salvatore Capezio created the famous “ballet shoes.” Following historical facts, Salvatore has been producing shoes for ballerinas since 1887 and suddenly thought about the idea of creating shoes for ordinary women - an everyday comfortable model that will allow a woman to feel free and comfortable.

Ballet flats gained worldwide popularity after they appeared on the cover of American Vogue magazine in 1949.

"Mary Jane"

"Mary Jane" is a flat-soled shoe with an instep strap and a rounded toe. Usually the heel of this model reaches a maximum of 7 cm, but nowadays you can find shoes with a rise of 10 cm. Although, in fact, the only condition for the heel of the Mary Jane model is to be stable. After all, back in the 1930s, shoes were created for crazy dancing, and not for calm walking along the streets. Naturally, shoes for such “dancing” activities should not fly off the feet, which is why such a stable, non-wobbly heel was invented.

A little later, the era of stilettos and frilly heels reigned in the fashion world, and already in the 1960s, comfortable and elegant Mary Janes were again at the peak of popularity. This was the prototype of the kind of children's shoes that every girl of that time wanted - and no wonder, because Twiggy herself was involved in the promotion of these shoes. Even later, in the 90s, Courtney Love began wearing them, who again gave the shoes another wave of popularity.

By the way, the shoes owe their name to the heroine of the English comic book “Buster Brown” - the girl Mary Jane, who wore just such shoes.

Slip-ons

Slip-ons are lightweight sneakers without laces, consisting of a canvas upper and a rubber sole. The history of slip-ons dates back to 1977, when shoemaker Paul Van Doren, the founder of Vans, presented his new creation to the public. Slip-ons immediately began to be in demand among surfers and skaters, and after the release of the film Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982, in which the main surfer character (by the way, Sean Penn) wore only slip-ons in the frame, they gained popularity. much wider popularity.

Now slip-ons have conquered not only the world of sports and everyday shopping, but also the designer world of high fashion. Valentino, Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, etc. often play with slip-ons in their collections. The simple design, breathable sole, absence of any laces or zippers, as well as a fairly low price made the “surfer shoes” a real fashion hit.

Fashion dictates trends and tendencies and there are so many shoe names that it’s not surprising to confuse something! It is especially difficult to navigate and distinguish between types of shoes in English.

Let's try to cover at least some types and classifications. The classification criteria are different: season, material of manufacture, who wears it, etc.

Initially, the classification is simple: women's and men's, seasonal (summer, winter, autumn, spring,) demi-season.

Seasonal shoes are logically divided into 4 seasons. Demi-season shoes includes two periods: autumn-winter and spring-summer. We choose demi-season shoes when we need to smoothly transition from autumn to winter shoes, from winter to spring, and from spring to summer. These are exactly the shoes that are chosen not specifically according to the time of year, but according to weather conditions.

There is also a simple classification into women's and men's shoes, leather and non-leather. Of course, it is not possible to cover all types of shoes and their names and classifications. But we will try to know the basics.

You can write a lot about these classifications and subtypes. But I would like to touch upon the topic of incomprehensible words and names in just a few words.

Thigh high boots- these are high boots, - boots Over the knee boots are characterized by a high and narrow “landing”. They must be above the knee.

And although they were originally designed to warm the feet of surfers when going ashore, now they warm Russian girls in the winter, changing their felt boots. There are different types, you can see them on the official website.

Gladiator boots– Greek “boots” - gladiators. Gladiator boots should not be confused with Greek sandals. Gladiator boots reach the knees and are secured with straps along the entire length.

Boots:

Dr. Martens- "army boots. This type of boot is characterized by strong lacing, which is done from the beginning to the end of the boot.

Timberland boots– literally translated from English as “forester’s boots.” People also call them “Timberlands”. For some reason they have become especially popular in the Russian Federation this season. There are both men's and women's, and even children's. And I even know lucky women with small feet who can buy them in the children's department (and they are lighter than adults! and more comfortable). Timbas are common in brown, but this season there were also blue and pink.

- “Chelsea”. Chelsea boots are characterized by a smooth surface, without laces, buckles and other attributes. The height of these boots is above the ankle, and in the side of the boots there is an elastic band inserted on both sides.

Monk boots- “monastic” boots, “monks”. Monk boots are characterized by a smooth surface, an upper overlap of leather with a buckle at the end.

Oxford, oxfords- these are shoes or boots in which the lacing is not adjustable, and serves more of a decorative role. The laces in such boots or shoes run strictly parallel to each other, and the tongue is completely closed.

Shoes and sandals with heels:

Lita– shoes with platform and high and thick heels, “litas”. Despite the high platform, Lita is a very comfortable shoe thanks to its wide, stable heel.

Platform- platform shoes, Louboutins. These shoes have a high platform in front and, of course, a high heel.

Slingbacks– strappy sandals with an open toe and heel, “skinbacks”.

Ankle Strap– platform and high-heeled shoes with a thin ankle strap. What distinguishes them from Mary Jane shoes is their thin strap.

T-Strap- shoes with a T-shaped ankle strap. Shoes with a T-strap differ from the rest in their elegance and unusualness. They cannot be confused with other shoes.

Open toe– sandals. Shoes in which the main part of the foot is open and the foot is held in place by straps or laces.

Wedge- wedges. This type of shoe is characterized by a high platform, but there are also low wedges. They can be either closed in the form of shoes or open in the form of sandals.

Stiletto- stiletto shoes. Stiletto shoes have a round toe, a low heel and no platform in the front.

Searpin- pumps. Classic shoe shape. Most often they have a smooth surface without any decoration.

Dockside– top siders. Top-siders are almost relatives of moccasins. They are distinguished by a cord running along the top of the shoe, which serves as decoration.
